It started with a few Negroni’s and a long night out in Venice, where Maurice Terzini and Matthew Bax had a new vision of creating a bar within a bar. Four years later, Bar Americano, normally tucked away in a laneway in the back streets of Melbourne CBD’s Presgrave Place, will be recreated in Bondi Beach to take up a residency within the Icebergs Bar for the month of April, bringing this concept to life.
The project centres on re-creating Bar Americano while keeping the same attitude, drinks, and philosophy in mind. Bar Americano famously holds only ten people standing, so in recreating this at Icebergs the bar will accommodate seven guests seated or 10 guests standing only. This exclusive and intimate space will be available for individual and group bookings.
With 20 years of experimental and ground-breaking bartending hidden deep within these drinks, Bar Americano prides itself on restricting the drink menu to just eight to ten drinks per night, reflecting the season and the creative whims of Matt Bax. Every sip unveils the layers and secrets behind what Matt describes as “simple” classics.
