Casual, generous, and made for settling in — this month is poured in the truest spirit of friendship.

Club Vino N°2 welcomes Matthew Fox of Fox Wine Company, a longtime champion of family owned producers, to co-host an evening with Gilles Lapalus, presenting Les Vins des Amis — a collection of Gilles’ wines and the stories behind them.

In January, fire tore through the Harcourt cool store, taking with it years of work, Gilles’ cellar stock, his vermouth collection, and the season’s entire production. Among the many Victorian producers affected, Gilles was one of the hardest hit. What followed was something far rarer than misfortune: friendship.

“These cuvées are an expression of generosity and solidarity in the spirit of St. Vincent, patron saint of winemakers,” Gilles says. “It simply demonstrates humanity at its best.”

Winemakers across the country, some of Australia’s most respected, sent over twenty finished wines to help him start again. From that generosity, Gilles blended his renaissance wines: four cuvées with no single site, vintage, or technique behind them, just a portrait of a community that showed up.
